Following the shooting that took a life and left another wounded at an apartment complex on North Braeswood Boulevard, Houston police have now apprehended a second suspect. In a development announced today, Miles Julian Edwards, a 19-year-old man, faces charges of capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. These charges are lodged in the 339th Criminal District Court, according to a news release from the City of Houston.

Previously, another suspect, 18-year-old Zion Armon Mitchell, was charged with the same offenses in connection to the case. The violent incident on May 24 resulted in the death of 18-year-old Kenneth Leaks. The connection between the suspects and the crime was established through an investigation that has led to both individuals being charged with serious offenses.

Official reports from the HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. Nielsen and A. Lopez, alongside Detectives K. Hale and C. Bowling, detailed that the incident unfolded during an apparent transaction. Leaks, while inside a car, confronted several assailants. The confrontation escalated, leading to Leaks being shot. Another young man, 17 years old, also caught in the gunfire, survived with injuries deemed non-fatal.

As the investigation progressed, authorities gathered evidence leading to the arrest of Zion Mitchell on June 16. He was taken into custody by the HPD Southeast Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team and charged in connection with the incident. Continuing their efforts, police later arrested Edwards last Thursday, who is now formally charged and awaiting further legal proceedings.

The Houston Police Department is requesting any additional information from the public and is asking individuals with relevant details to contact the HPD Homicide Division or reach out to Crime Stoppers.
