A small plane crash in Manistee County, Michigan, has left two people with minor injuries. The incident occurred on Sunday, around 9:30 a.m. in Springdale Township. Both occupants, a 53-year-old pilot and a 49-year-old passenger from Beulah, were outside the aircraft when first responders arrived at the scene of the crash, where the plane was found dangling from a tree and leaking fuel, according to a report from ClickOnDetroit.
Despite the potentially hazardous situation, hazardous materials management personnel from Grand Traverse Metro Fire were summoned, and the aircraft did not catch fire at any point. The report from the Manistee County Sheriff's Office, shared via their Facebook page, confirmed that MMR EMS evaluated the female passenger who complained of leg pain, though ultimately, she was not transported to the hospital.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the pilot attributed the crash to an electrical issue leading to engine failure shortly after takeoff from Thompsonville Airport. The pilot attempted an emergency landing in a field, which resulted in the aircraft striking trees. Drugs and alcohol were not considered factors in the incident, the Sheriff's Office added.
