Sterling Heights has been selected as one of sixteen cities to take part in the program, which focuses on increasing housing availability and affordability while supporting communities, according to the City of Sterling Heights.
Sterling Heights is focusing on strategies to preserve and expand its single-family housing stock. The city aims to balance growth while maintaining its character. Mayor Michael C. Taylor said, “Our city is committed to creating housing solutions that ensure Sterling Heights remains a welcoming, vibrant, and accessible community for people at every stage of life,” as reported by the City of Sterling Heights.
Sterling Heights has joined the 18-month Housing Supply Accelerator Challenge, a program with 16 municipalities across the U.S., including Alachua County, Florida, and Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. The program offers a playbook, access to national experts, and collaboration with other cities to improve housing strategies. City Planner Dr. Jake Parcell said, "By taking part in this challenge, we’ll be able to build on our momentum, strengthen partnerships, and accelerate solutions that increase housing opportunities for current and future residents," as stated by the City of Sterling Heights.
