The National Weather Service in Cleveland has provided a forecast indicating pleasant weather conditions for Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania heading into the weekend. According to a recent NWS Area Forecast Discussion, an upper-level trough is giving way to rising upper-level ridging from the Midwest, moving into the Ohio Valley and lower Great Lakes region. This shift spells out a stretch of nice and sunny days ahead.
The weather outlook, which highlighted that our area has left behind only some "areas of fog this morning" due to recent rainfall and overnight clearing, will have residents waking to possible fog advisories, primarily "south of the Highway 30 corridor," before the fog lifts by mid-morning. While sitting in the bliss that follows a storm, the forecast points toward a weekend warm-up, with "high temps back in the middle to upper 70s."
What the NWS terms as "nice and quiet weather" will continue into early next week under the dominance of the stated upper-level ridge of high pressure. A mostly sunny to partly cloudy Sunday and Monday is on the cards, with temperatures predicted to be swinging in the "upper 70s to lower 80s," offering a little stretch of summer vibes as fall officially kicks in.
In the coming midweek period, a potential tropical system heading towards the Carolinas or Mid-Atlantic region could sling some "cooler and breezy weather" our region's way, according to the NWS. With a cold front moving southward and a high-pressure system building from the north, there might be a "decent pressure gradient" developing that could lead to a few gusty days, though the forecast likely remains dry with no precipitation expected until mid-week.
On the marine side, Lake Erie sailors have smooth sailing to look forward to over the weekend, with the area caught between a northern cold front and a southern low system. The NWS forecasts "westerly winds at 5 to 12 knots today" shifting more south/southwesterly late tonight through Saturday." As we gear into next week, boaters should stay tuned as "Small Craft Advisories are possible as early as Tuesday afternoon," with a tightening pressure gradient anticipated.
