
A 33-year-old man, identified as Lagarien Thomas, was arrested on Thursday night after a stabbing on the University of Michigan campus near Catherine Street and Zina Pitcher Place. The University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security sent an emergency alert at 6:20 p.m. advising people to avoid the area. Police said Thomas tried to enter the construction site of the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion before the assault. He was taken into custody around 11:40 p.m. An eyewitness, Jacob Reich, said he saw a trail of blood near his dorm across from Couzens Hall, stating, “We didn’t really think it was blood. We thought it was paint or something. Then it was like scary that no one had gotten there to deal with it,” as reported by ClickOnDetroit.
FOX 2 Detroit reported at 7:11 p.m. that authorities described the suspect as a Black man wearing a white shirt, tie, and jeans, and released a photo of Lagarien Thomas to help with identification. The condition of the victim has not been released.
