Seminole County has been shaken by the recent actions of local law enforcement, leading to the death of a suspect in a child pornography case. Gary Guckenberger, 68, was shot and killed by a Seminole County deputy during an attempt to serve an arrest warrant at his Longwood home on Wednesday. According to MyNews13, Sheriff Dennis Lemma recounted that Guckenberger, using a walker, had exited his residence and, upon confrontation by deputies, produced a .38 revolver, allegedly pointing it at the officers.
Despite commands to drop the weapon, Guckerberger's response was "I have to," as per Lemma's account, which was the moment a deputy decided to quickly take action, firing twice and resulting in the suspect's death. Investigators had commenced a surveillance operation following a tip about someone in the home accessing child pornography.
According to WFTV, prior to this event, law enforcement executed a search warrant, seizing cell phones and computers from the property, which led to the discovery of over 100 videos and 200 photos showcasing explicit images of children aged between 3 and 9.
This disturbing find was sufficient for authorities to secure an arrest warrant for Guckenberger while they continued to examine the evidence.
