A 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg on Saturday night after what witnesses described as a confrontation in Seattle's Ravenna neighborhood, with police and emergency crews responding to the scene shortly after reports of gunfire were made, as stated in the Seattle Police Department's blog.
Around 8:23 p.m. near the 1300 block of Northeast Ravenna Boulevard, a teen was shot and left in the street until medics from the Seattle Fire Department arrived. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center and is in stable condition. Seattle Police Department said the teen and a friend were walking back to their car after a concert in Cowen Park when two unknown people approached them. A fight broke out, and one of the suspects pulled a gun and shot the teen. Both suspects ran off and have not been found.
Initially, the teen was not forthcoming with details, yet he later disclosed he had no prior knowledge of the suspects, recounting he reacted to an apparent robbery attempt by swinging at one of the suspects before the trigger was pulled—his friend, who had managed to avoid injury by running away, corroborated this series of events upon returning once the danger had seemingly passed, as detailed on the Seattle Police Department Blotter post.
Seattle Police Department are actively investigating the shooting, seeking to unpack the cause and figure out the full narrative behind this violent encounter; meanwhile, they urge anyone with information to come forward and contribute what they know to the Seattle Police Department Violent Crimes Tip Line by calling 206-233-5000.
