A fatal shooting in Cleveland's North Collinwood neighborhood on Friday has sparked a police investigation after a teenage boy was killed. According to a WKYC report, the incident occurred at 870 East 185th Street, home to Quix Food Store, although it remains unconfirmed whether the shooting took place inside the establishment or in the vicinity.
As officials work to uncover further details, Councilman Michael Polensek has shared insights on the tragedy. In an interview obtained by 19 News, Polensek disclosed that the victim was a 17-year-old boy and suggested the possibility of a targeted shooting. The exact location of the event, whether inside or outside of E 185th Deli, has yet to be determined by authorities. Police have yet to provide information regarding any suspects involved.
Details about the victim have been sparse, with no further identifying information released. His age was confirmed by Councilman Polensek during discussions with the media. Cleveland Emergency Medical Services pronounced the teen dead at the scene upon their arrival shortly after the shooting, which took place around 7 p.m.
The sense of outrage over this incident was palpable in Councilman Polensek’s remarks to the FOX 8 I-Team. "Absolutely disgusted by this senseless violence," Polensek said. "It’s a beautiful night and this happens. There is no respect for life." The Cleveland police's homicide unit has taken on the investigation of this case.
