A 17-year-old girl and a 24-year-old man fell victim to separate violent incidents within minutes of each other on Manhattan's East Side. According to ABC7NY, the teenage girl was shot in the shoulder near the intersection of East 27th Street and Park Avenue last night, while a block away, a man was stabbed at 28th Street and Madison Avenue.
Details from the scene describe a chaotic situation, according to an eyewitness account shared with ABC7NY, "It looked like a fight, like a physical fight or altercation or brawl that way, And then I see people running this way towards this side of the street, and then I think I heard what sounded like gunshots." The two incidents occurred around the same time, but it has not been confirmed whether they are connected. No arrests have been reported in the stabbing incident.
The New York Post reports that the young girl struck by a stray bullet was not the intended target. The incident occurred approximately an hour after the nearby Mexican Day Parade ended. The NYPD confirmed that both victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital and are in stable condition. In connection with the teenage girl's shooting, a person of interest—who has over 20 prior arrests—is currently in custody, though no formal charges have been filed at this time.
