Attention commuters and downtown visitors, significant traffic adjustments are on the horizon. Starting after the Friday morning rush hour, the City of Cleveland will be closing the eastbound Shoreway at West 45th Street for water main repairs. This closure, necessary for the maintenance of the city's infrastructure, will commence around 10 a.m. last Friday, September 26, as per an announcement on the City of Cleveland's official website.
The construction work will see the section of Route 2 eastbound completely inaccessible over the weekend, with a planned reopening for Monday morning's traffic on September 29. Consequently, the westbound (outbound) Shoreway will remain open, ensuring that the evening commutes are not disrupted by the repair work.
Drivers who typically use this section of the Shoreway to travel towards downtown will need to adjust their routes accordingly. The City's transportation department has laid out detours, suggesting that the west side drivers should utilize I-90 eastbound via West 117th Street or West 150th Street. Alternatively, Detroit Avenue can also serve as a route to north-south connectors like W. 25th Street, or W. 9th/W. Huron Road for reaching downtown destinations.
Furthermore, residents looking to visit Edgewater Beach and the Edgewater Marina can breathe easily as access to these popular spots will remain unaffected by the weekend work. In their advisory, city officials expressed gratitude for the public's patience and encouraged motorists to plan their travels ahead of time. The information can be found on the City of Cleveland's government news portal.
