The community is grappling with the fallout of a deadly incident at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino where a shooting occurred just after midnight yesterday. According to MySA, officials have confirmed the identities of two victims who were fatally shot during the casino's crowded raffle event. Retired U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Agent Marcus "Mark" Antley was declared deceased at the scene, while Alicia Sanchez, a resident of Dimmit County, succumbed to her injuries while en route to the hospital.
The shooting has left five additional individuals injured, with two of them sent to University Health San Antonio. In a social media update, the hospital disclosed that one patient, a 22-year-old woman, has been "treated and released," while the other, a 59-year-old woman, remains "in serious condition." However, it is currently unclear where the other three injured parties are receiving treatment. Following the tragic events, Dimmit County Judge Martha A. Ponce emotionally called on her community to "come together in unity and support for the victims and their loved ones within our Dimmit County community," as reported by MySA.
On the law enforcement front, Texas DPS troopers and Wilson County sheriff's deputies were involved in the pursuit and eventual apprehension of 34-year-old San Antonio native Keryan Jones. According to FOX San Antonio, Jones now faces two counts of capital murder and five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His arrest followed a traffic stop and a pursuit which led onto FM 1347, where a successful PIT maneuver and Taser deployment enabled officials to take Jones into custody.
In the wake of the shooting, the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino has temporarily shut its doors, with no clear date as to when they will reopen. As the investigation continues, local authorities are working closely to provide support and assess the full scope of this incident. Further information and developments will be reported as the situation evolves and more details emerge about this sorrowful event, with updates expected from MySA and other local news outlets.
