A serious collision occurred last Saturday night in Reisterstown, MD, involving an ambulance and a tractor-trailer hauling fuel, resulting in two paramedics being helicoptered to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. The incident was first reported by WMAR-2 News and involved first responders from the Gamber Community Fire Company in Carroll County.
The crash took place at approximately 8:10 p.m. at the intersection of Butler Road and Westminster Pike. Baltimore County police said a Carroll County ambulance was responding to a call with its lights and sirens activated when it was struck. Maryland State Police helicopters flew two individuals to hospitals, while paramedics treated several people at the scene and transported them to hospitals. According to a statement obtained by WBAL-TV, the severity of the injuries was not immediately released, and no fuel appeared to have leaked from the container in the tractor-trailer.
David Ellin, an attorney who has represented clients in crashes at this intersection, expressed concerns about the potential for greater disasters given the nature of the vehicles involved. "I mean there could have been an explosion that wiped out an entire block," he remarked to WMAR-2 News. Data from Maryland State Police reveal a pattern of accidents at this crossroad, with seven recorded so far in 2025, five resulting in injuries. This figure adds to the second-most crashes in the state for Baltimore County this year, reaching 11,812, out of which 2,586 have led to injuries and 34 have been fatal.
An ongoing investigation led by the Baltimore County Police Crash Team aims to discern the cause of the crash and prevent future incidents.
