The UTSA Roadrunners clinched their first victory of the season with a dominating performance against Incarnate Word, cruising to a 48-20 win. The Roadrunners' offense was in full force, with quarterback Owen McCown throwing for 238 yards and four touchdowns, according to ESPN. Meanwhile, running back Robert Henry Jr. carved up the field for 144 yards and a couple of scores, boosting UTSA's record to 1-2.
In a display that set the competitive tone from the outset, UTSA raced ahead to a 24-0 lead by halftime and managed to outscore UIW in every quarter. The victory was no mean feat against an Incarnate Word squad that entered the game ranked No. 8 in the FCS coaches’ poll, as per FOX San Antonio. However, the early UTSA lead proved insurmountable despite the Cardinals' brief resurgence after the break where they amassed 20 points.
With this win, the Roadrunners sustained their impeccable record against FCS opponents, now standing at 10-0 since their transition to the FBS began back in 2012. Henry's long-range prowess was on display once again, bursting for a 74-yard touchdown right out of halftime gates, marking his third consecutive game with a run spanning more than 74 yards on one of the first three plays after the break.
The offensive onslaught for UTSA was further supplemented by AJ Wilson's 77-yard touchdown reception, tossing the score to 38-7 in the third quarter. Despite the quarterback switch for UIW, with EJ Colson stepping in for Richard Torres and hurling for 213 yards and three touchdowns, it was too little, too late for the Cardinals, as echoed by ESPN. The Roadrunners' victory helped bolster their impressive home game record to 18 wins over the last 20 matches.
Incarnate Word, on the the other hand, will be looking to bounce back after falling to a 1-2 record alongside UTSA.
