
An 18-year-old man from Westland was killed in a shooting in Ann Arbor on Friday. The incident happened outside a strip mall near Packard Street and Platt Road. The shooting occurred after the man left a business and became involved in a shootout, according to ClickOnDetroit.
Ann Arbor police responded around 1:15 p.m. to reports of gunfire near a strip mall. An officer saw a vehicle leaving the area, leading to a chase that ended in a crash near Lorraine Street, where three suspects were arrested, as reported by CBS NewsDetroit. Nearby schools were briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution. Police said the shooting happened after the victim left a business and that it was an isolated incident. The 18-year-old victim from Westland was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died.
Community members expressed grief following the incident. Darius Hampton, an employee at a barbershop on Packard, said, "Just another sad case of gun violence. It’s such a shell shock today." Ann Arbor Police Chief Andre Anderson stated, "Our department remains committed to ensuring the safety of our community as the investigation continues," as mentioned by WXYZ.
