
A tragic event unfolded on Long Beach Boulevard and 68th Street, where a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and fatally injured; the Long Beach Police Department is actively investigating the fatal traffic collision that took place yesterday, as reported by the LBPD's official press release. Officers responded to the incident around 12:16 p.m. following the collision between a Chevrolet Camaro and the pedestrian. Despite their efforts and the immediate medical attention provided by Long Beach Fire Department personnel, the victim succumbed to her injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
According to the LBPD, the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro was headed south on Long Beach Boulevard, while the pedestrian, whose identity has been withheld pending notification of next of kin, was walking eastward in a marked crosswalk at the time of the impact. After the incident, the driver of the Camaro fled the scene – returned some 40 minutes later, ultimately. Eric Dewayne Moody, a 65-year-old Los Angeles resident, has been identified as the motorist, now arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run, with bail set at $50,000, as claimed by the Long Beach Police Department.
As of now, factors such as speed, distracted driving, or impairment do not appear to have contributed to the tragic event.
