Gardeners and plant lovers will have an opportunity to spruce up their gardens at the Annual Fall Perennial Exchange this Saturday. The event, slated for October 4 from 10 a.m. to noon, will take place at 6th and Norwich, as confirmed by 13th District Alderman Scott Spiker. Those aiming to diversify their green sanctuaries can partake in trading plants, bulbs, seeds, and garden tools while mingling with fellow horticulture aficionados.
A statement obtained by the City of Milwaukee’s official website highlighted that participants are encouraged to label their plants with details such as name, height, and color to facilitate the exchange process. In a gesture to adorn neighborhood gardens, the exchange serves not merely as a forum for swapping flora but also as a community-building event. Alderman Spiker was quoted, "I greatly appreciate the Garden District Neighborhood Association and their volunteers who put on this event to support the community, and I would encourage those in the district and throughout the city to stop by the event this Saturday."
The perennial exchange boasts not only trades but also a sale of hardy garden mums. Proceeds from the sale will support local Garden District events, ensuring that the beauty fostered extends beyond personal gardens into the community sphere. According to the announcement, 8" pots will be sold for $8, and 10" pots for $15, all grown and supplied by a local greenhouse. Decorative items are welcome at the exchange, adding another layer to the event’s appeal for those looking to enhance their outdoor spaces.
While local events are thriving off the sales generated, the green thumbs of the Garden District endeavor to beautify this slice of Milwaukee with each annual exchange.
