A recent incident in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood has placed a 27-year-old man behind bars once again after he was discovered early this morning smoking fentanyl in front of a local supermarket, armed with a loaded gun he claimed to have found. According to the Seattle Police Department's blog, patrol officers encountered the man just after midnight utilizing a pipe for narcotics in front of the QFC on Broadway Avenue.
Officers made the arrest without incident, which led to the discovery of the firearm during the suspect’s interview. The man, whose previous convictions include unlawful possession of firearms, theft of a motor vehicle, eluding, and more, indicated he “found it” when questioned about the gun’s origin. The officers then conducted a background check that revealed his felon status and an active $4,000 warrant for fighting in public stemming from the Centralia Municipal Court.
Despite his recent release from prison and a criminal history that prohibited him from carrying firearms, this individual now faces charges of narcotics possession and unlawful possession of a firearm. He has been booked into the King County Jail, reflecting the system's persistence in addressing the interplay between drug use and gun violence in the community.
