Baltimore County has seen a notable reduction in residential break-ins thanks to the diligent efforts of local detectives. According to a Fox Baltimore report, 64-year-old Raymond Byrd has been apprehended in connection with a series of burglaries that have struck the Towson, Parkville, and White Marsh areas since August 2025. The Baltimore County Police Department's Burglary Unit was able to link Byrd to at least six cases, potentially halting what officials say was Byrd's "CAT burglary trend."
Details have emerged about the method in which the burglar operated. Byrd allegedly used a prominent prying tool to gain unauthorized entry into several homes, according to CBS News. This tool appeared to be a large screwdriver or pry bar with a transparent red acetate handle. Surveillance footage also captured an individual using a device resembling a cell phone as a flashlight, believed to be Byrd.
The arrest of Byrd unfolded dramatically at the Executive Inn on Pulaski Highway, where detectives located the suspect after deploying a GPS tracking device on his 2006 Jeep Cherokee. The subsequent search of his hotel room and vehicle unearthed an assortment of items, including the distinctive screwdriver seen in the surveillance footage, a black knit hat, a face mask, and jewelry subsequently confirmed as stolen from the victims' residences.
Recovering the stolen property has been a measure of justice for victims, as police cite Byrd as having stolen upward of $44,000 worth of goods while causing approximately $7,200 in damage. Eventually, law enforcement recovered about $17,200 worth of the stolen goods from local pawn shops where Byrd allegedly sold pilfered jewelry using his Maryland driver's license to complete the transactions. Byrd is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center, where more charges are pending as the investigation continues.
