A 33-year-old man from Mount Vernon was hospitalized last Saturday after a violent encounter in which he was both severely bitten by his own dog and inadvertently shot by Baltimore police. The incident unfolded on the 900 block of St. Paul Street just before 5 p.m., as reported by FOX Baltimore.

Upon arriving in response to an animal bite report, officers engaged with the victim through his door, where he detailed the aggressive behavior of his pet. The situation escalated rapidly, preventing the owner from effectively securing the dog in another room. According to WBALTV, it was "a short time later" when the dog resumed its attack, this time, as the man attempted to exit his residence.

The confrontation spilled outside, where, in a desperate attempt to stop the dog, two officers fired their weapons. The dog was killed in the shooting, while the owner sustained a bullet wound to the leg along with multiple bite injuries. "The dog was shot and killed, and the owner was also hit by a bullet in the leg," a statement obtained by WBALTV confirmed the precarious outcome of the police intervention.

The injured man was promptly taken to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. As part of the follow-up to such incidents, the Baltimore Police's Special Investigations Response Team is leading an investigation. Additionally, the Department has also activated its Public Release of Critical Incident Recordings Policy, as noted in a statement given to FOX Baltimore.
