Investigators say bird droppings helped identify the suspect vehicle in a shooting that injured Macomb County businessman Eddie Jawad outside his home last Tuesday. Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham stated that Jasan Delanta Martin, 32, of Eastpointe is accused of the ambush. Detectives used surveillance and traffic cameras to track a black Ford Escape from the scene to Detroit and confirmed it was the same vehicle by matching a registered plate and visual details such as bird droppings, brake dust, and smudges, as reported by ClickOnDetroit.

Even after changing the license plates to a stolen Cadillac plate, the car’s unique markings, including bird droppings, helped investigators track it. Police used this information along with Ford Global Security tracking data to locate the vehicle on Wellington Valley Drive at the time of the shooting, according to ClickOnDetroit.

Law enforcement executed 23 search warrants and worked with the Warren Police Department and the FBI’s Violent Crimes and Gangs Task Force, leading to the SWAT arrest of Jasan Delanta Martin at a home in Warren on Sunday. Sheriff Wickersham said, “This was a total effort of law enforcement at every level to get this individual in custody,” as mentioned by FOX 2 Detroit. Martin, who was on parole from Ohio for armed robbery, kidnapping, and assault with a dangerous weapon, faces charges of assault with intent to commit murder and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, as per WXYZ. His arraignment was scheduled on Wednesday.
