Bishop in Owens Valley woke up to a chilly 32 degrees Fahrenheit early this morning, marking the first freeze of the season for an area unaccustomed to such a cold embrace this early. According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, the cold snap isn't isolated; Lincoln County can expect its own inaugural freeze by tomorrow morning.

While the recent H500 low ushered in unexpected rain and mountain snow earlier in the week, it's moving on, leaving behind crisper air and a slow pivot back toward normal temperatures. As the weather clears up, "Dry and pleasant weather conditions are expected through the weekend, with cool temperatures gradually returning to seasonal normals," the NWS reported.

Aviation conditions surrounding Harry Reid Airport are adjusting accordingly. This morning's forecast calls for diminishing clouds and a transition to more northwest winds, with possible gusts up to 20 knots. Pilots traversing the skies of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona, and southeast California can also anticipate breezier west-southwest winds through the day, followed by more north or northwest winds later on.

The weather might seem mild for now, but the National Weather Service hints at another system that could roughen things up come next week. "Extended range guidance hints at renewed troughing for the early part of next week which could bring a return of gusty winds and cooling temperatures to the region," NWS discussed in their forecast discussion.

The National Weather Service encourages spotters to report any significant weather or impacts as conditions unfold.
