Residents and travelers in Boerne can now conveniently power up their electric vehicles at the city's first public EV charging station. Located at the Boerne Visitors Center, 282 N. Main St., this addition addresses the growing demand for EV support infrastructure. The dual-port station allows two cars to charge simultaneously, facilitating a better charging experience.

Providing a substantial 120 volts, users can expect to quickly power their EVs—most vehicles will easily, and adequately, charge in just around 30 minutes. Sheldon Cravey, assistant IT director, acknowledged the challenges overcome to see this project come to fruition, stating, "This project was several years in the making due to supply chain delays, but we’re proud to deliver a system that benefits the widest range of EV customers," as mentioned on My Boerne News. Cravey's dedication, along with Director of Operations Nick Montagno, has certainly to paid off with this modern addition to the city's amenities.

Convenience is a cornerstone of the charging station's design, as it's integrated with the ChargeLab app, which directs EV drivers to readily available charging options. The charging fee sits at a modest 0.35 cent per kilowatt hour, and though payment is currently app-based, there are plans to broaden the payment method spectrum with credit card options in the works.

True to the project's inclusive intent, City Councilman Ty Wolosin emphasizes the station's role in fostering a welcoming environment for all who visit or reside in Boerne. "The station is designed for a broad range of users – tourists, locals, shoppers, and employees – especially at a time when Texas is third in the nation for drivers who own electric vehicles," Wolosin told My Boerne News. This infrastructure not only underpins the practical needs of electric vehicle owners but also invites them to explore and engage with the local businesses that lend Boerne its charm.

The late August ribbon cutting event saw members of the City Council and staff in attendance.
