In a substantial drug bust at the Los Indios International Bridge in Brownsville, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have intercepted a laudable quantity of narcotics. The haul, consisting of methamphetamine and black tar heroin, amounts to a street value of over $1.3 million, as declared by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The contraband was discreetly concealed within a seemingly unremarkable 2001 Chevrolet.

During a routine inspection on October 6, officers singled out a 37-year-old male Mexican citizen for a secondary examination. Their vigilance, backed by a canine unit and a nonintrusive inspection system, led to the discovery of the hidden packages. Port Director Tater Ortiz commended his team for their relentless diligence, saying, "Our officers work with diligence as they perform their duties, and their efforts led to this significant drug seizure, keeping the dangerous narcotics from reaching our communities," according to the official U.S. Customs and Border Protection statement.

The stash comprised 67.1 pounds of alleged methamphetamine valued at approximately $595,996 and 42.5 pounds of alleged black tar heroin, with a street value of around $714,092. The narcotics along with, the vehicle were seized by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers. The case took a more serious turn as the driver was detained and handed over to Homeland Security Investigations special agents who have since initiated a criminal investigation.
