Today, the Haslam Sports Group (HSG) and the Cleveland Browns kick-started construction activities at the site for the new Huntington Bank Field in Brook Park, a substantial project heralded to bring significant economic impact to the Northeast Ohio region. In a statement obtained by Cleveland 19, Haslam Sports Group President David Jenkins expressed enthusiasm over the collaboration with esteemed construction managers AECOM Hunt and Turner Construction Company, citing that the development will "create a world-class stadium experience and entertainment district for our fans."
The construction is expected to be a boon for the local workforce, with projections to generate upwards of 6,000 construction jobs and thousands of additional full-time positions within the stadium and adjacent developments. According to a WKYC report, the initial phase of the stadium's construction commenced yesterday and will involve site preparation, grading, and the installation of utilities, with full groundbreaking to potentially take place in early 2026.
David Jenkins highlighted the focus on economic development in his statement via WKYC, "Additionally, continuing to work with our established local partners, the DiGeronimo Companies and Independence Excavating, will reinforce our collective priority of spurring economic development and creating thousands of jobs and opportunities throughout our community as we move towards breaking ground on the new enclosed Huntington Bank Field in early 2026."
This project marks Ohio’s first enclosed stadium, an initiative that the Browns hope to seamlessly integrate into the fabric of the region's entertainment and athletic culture. Cleveland.com notes that both AECOM Hunt and Turner Construction have extensive NFL stadium experience, a factor that likely contributed to firmly securing their position as leaders of the $2.4 billion investment in Brook Park's future.
