In the latest development of a harrowing murder case, Maxwell Anderson, currently serving a life sentence for the murder of 19-year-old Sade Robinson, has been ordered by a judge to pay restitution amounting over $90,000. According to WISN, Anderson attended the restitution hearing via Zoom from an out-of-state facility yesterday, Oct. 16.
A breakdown of the ordered restitution includes nearly $36,000 to Robinson's mother, Sheena Scarbrough, and roughly $17,000 to Robinson's father, Carlos Robinson. Furthermore, the Crime Victim Compensation Program will receive nearly $38,000 for funeral and burial costs, as reported by CBS 58. Anderson's attorney has conceded that fulfilling these obligations may be impossible due to his life sentence.
Sade's family reacted emotionally during the proceedings, with Scarbrough expressing that the restitution was not principally about money. "This wasn't about financial restitution," Scarbrough said in the hearing obtained by WISN. "We're not monetary people, but the recognition of the pain that was caused and the life that was taken, my beautiful angel." Anderson's request to postpone payments until after his appeal was denied by Judge Laura Crivello.
Despite Anderson's life sentence, Anderson is expected to contribute any prison earnings to the restitution. "Any wages he earns in prison will go directly to Robinson's family," stated TMJ4. The ramifications of his actions continue, as a wrongful death lawsuit remains ongoing with a motion hearing set for next month. Anderson continues to maintain his innocence and has initiated the appeals process.
