The Dallas Police Department made significant headway in the battle against crime late last month when the Southwest CRT/Deployment officers apprehended Ricardo Cabriales, a 35-year-old suspected of a business robbery that took place earlier in September. According to a report from the Dallas Police Department, the arrest occurred after a traffic stop and led to Cabriales being charged with Aggravated Robbery of a Business relating to an incident on the 2300 block of West Illinois Avenue.
But the reach of a police intervention can often extend beyond the immediate catch. In this instance, the ripple effect from the robbery investigation brought down another criminal, presumed drug dealer Edgar Cayetano, age 37. Information unearthed during the Cabriales case led the officers to Cayetano, who was already on the radar with an active warrant for probation violation. He was located on September 26 in the 3300 block of Marvin D Love Freeway.
Upon Cayetano's arrest, officers discovered he was carrying 11 grams of fentanyl and 8.9 grams of methamphetamine. Additionally, he was found with a handgun and nearly $700 in currency, leading to charges for his probation violation warrant and two counts of first-degree felony Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, as well as Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon with a Felony Conviction - a second-degree felony. "Our CRT and Deployment officers took the initiative to follow up on information about a fentanyl dealer operating in Dallas and took him and his dangerous drugs off the street," Major Raymario Sanchez of the Southwest Patrol Division was quoted as saying, per the Dallas Police Department.
