Two gang members were arrested during a coordinated police operation last month. On August 4, officers were dispatched to a shooting on Hamilton Avenue. The investigation, led by the department's Gang Detectives, identified Derek Betts, 30, as the suspect. This preliminary inquiry set a more extensive investigation in motion, culminating in a later raid that yielded drugs, firearms, and cash, the Dallas Police Department reported.
It was on September 9 when Dallas PD, backed by their SWAT and Narcotics units, executed a warrant on Metropolitan Avenue. The raid uncovered an arsenal of weapons, substantial quantities of narcotics, and a sum of U.S. currency. Derek Betts was apprehended and faces charges including Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Terrell Lockridge, aged 29 and also a known gang member, was captured on an outstanding warrant for Probation Violation related to the same firearm offense.
The successful seizure and arrests underscore a precise collaboration between various law enforcement units. A post shared by the Dallas Police Department lauded the operation, stating, "This cohesive partnership exemplifies the dedication and the utmost professionalism of all officers involved and strengthens the bond of trust with the communities we serve by safely apprehending two high-impact offenders and enhancing the quality of life of our neighborhoods through the seizure of drugs and firearms." The details provided on their official blog run down the inventory of contraband and weapons that were confiscated, which includes 14 firearms and a large stash of ecstasy/MDMA, marijuana, and promethazine, indicative of significant drug trade involvement.
Items seized during the raid amount to 14 firearms, approximately 12.7 kilograms of marijuana, around 7 pounds of Ecstasy/MDMA, and 90 ounces of Promethazine, alongside $8,469 in cash. Betts and Lockridge, now in custody, are set to be tried federally as the case has been submitted to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas.
