The City of Dallas Sanitation Department has issued an update, putting a hold on the previously announced alley-to-curb trash and recycling service transition. Facing the challenges of navigating narrow alleys, which can prove hazardous for efficient collections, the department had initially devised a plan to move collections from the alleys to the curbside. The department is now re-evaluating this plan in search of alternative methods that might preserve alley collection for some neighborhoods, according to a recent bulletin from the City of Dallas.

In the interim, residents are reminded to keep the alleys clear of vegetation, debris, and other obstructions to prevent disrupting services. Trash and recycling carts must also be placed correctly; that is, with closed lids and the appropriate amount of space around them to not inhibit the passage of collection trucks. Failures to comply with these regulations could lead to "further compliance action," as per the Sanitation Department's communication.

The Department also warns that if alley conditions or blockages prevent crews from operating safely, service will transition to curbside pickup on a block-by-block basis. This decision highlights the city's commitment to the safety of its workers while attempting to maintain the convenience of alley service where possible.
