An individual from Mexico has been apprehended in Dallas after posting content on TikTok that authorities interpreted as a solicitation for the murder of ICE agents. The United States Attorney’s office for the Northern District of Texas confirmed the arrest, indicating that Eduardo Aguilar, 23, faces a federal charge for the threatening communication shared online.

Court documents released by the U.S. Attorney's Office specify the controversial post made by Aguilar on October 9. Featuring text superimposed on black and white imagery, the translation provided reads, "I need 10 dudes in Dallas with determination (guts) who aren’t afraid to [two skull emojis]." The emojis are typically understood to mean "die." Following it, in a contrasting red and white text, the message insists on offering "10K for each ICE agent." Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, federal officers were able to arrest him, presenting the alleged evidence that led to his apprehension.

In response to this event, Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy E. Larson made a firm statement. "Threats against our law enforcement officers are completely unacceptable," she stated, per the U.S. Attorney's Office. Larson further emphasized that any threats or bounties placed on agents will prompt thorough investigation and prosecution to the fullest extent.

Aguilar had an initial appearance in court yesterday, where a United States Magistrate Judge in Dallas ordered his detainment in federal custody. If he is found guilty of the charge, Aguilar could spend up to five years in federal prison. However, as noted in the criminal complaint, which serves as an allegation and not evidence of guilt, Aguilar maintains the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation was a combined effort, receiving assistance from the Dallas Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, U.S. Marshals Service, Federal Protective Service, Homeland Security Investigations, Immigration and Customs Enforcement – ERO, the Garland Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives – Dallas Field Division.
