In a display of compassionate intervention, a four-point buck found itself in a perilous situation on Interstate 75, but was subsequently rescued. According to ClickOnDetroit, yesterday, the deer was trapped between concrete barriers separating northbound and southbound lanes in Auburn Hills, leading to a coordinated response by local authorities.
The incident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m., prompted a motorist to contact the Auburn Hills police after witnessing the deer being struck by a vehicle near Lapeer Road. The gap between the barriers, a mere foot wide, left the animal wedged and unable to free itself. Despite the lanes being closed on both sides of the interstate during the rescue effort, authorities, including the Oakland County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team, were able to reach the panicked animal. As per MLive, Sheriff Michael Bouchard expressed pride in the team's skill and determination.
Efforts to save the deer involved elaborate measures from the Search and Rescue Team, who employed a technical truck and straps to gently lift and untangle the deer's hooves. As reported by WHMI, the ordeal lasted nearly an hour, with the deer appearing "a bit bruised but was otherwise unharmed" after being extricated. Once the rescue was completed, the animal was cared for by Oakland County Animal Control before being released into the wild at Bald Mountain Recreation Area.
