
The National Weather Service in Denver forecasts a partly sunny day today, with the temperature peaking near 65 degrees. Although it might feel slightly crisp with the current reading at 40°F and a wind chill making it feel like 36°, the light and variable winds are expected to shift north-northeast at about 6 mph by afternoon. As per the National Weather Service, the night should remain mostly clear with the mercury dropping to around 40 degrees.
Looking ahead to the weekend, NWS predicts a sunny Saturday with highs touching around 71, while the following night presents a partly cloudy sky with lows of 43 degrees. Erratically, Sunday's weather leans towards mostly sunny with a high near 72, but winds could pick up, gusting as high as 20 mph. There are chances of showers by Sunday night, pegged at 20 percent.
In a statement issued by the NWS, a new storm system might sweep in by Sunday, which could lead to cooler temperatures, mountain snow, and gusty winds continuing into Monday. While the plains might experience scattered light rain showers tonight into Friday, mainly south of Interstate 70, snow is not expected at lower elevations until Sunday night or Monday.
The NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook for northeast and north central Colorado. Spotters, however, have been told they're not needed today or tonight. In the mountain areas, 1 to 4 inches of snow could accumulate above 10 thousand feet, with the snow level dropping to between 9 and 10 thousand feet tonight. The forecast suggests the heaviest snowfall will be around Summit County.
