A routine traffic stop by Michigan State Police in Detroit last Saturday unfolded into a significant seizure of drugs and firearms. Officials told CBS News Detroit that the stop was initiated after a motorist was spotted ignoring a stop sign and driving without insurance.
Upon further investigation, troopers learned the driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. A search of the vehicle revealed a Glock .40 caliber handgun and sizeable amounts of narcotics, including over 50 grams of ecstasy and 19 oxycodone pills, WXYZ reported.
A search warrant obtained later for the driver's residence led to the discovery of more illicit substances and weapons. At the home, officials seized an additional eight grams of methamphetamine, 28 grams of ecstasy, a revolver, and a 12-gauge shotgun, as detailed in the CBS News Detroit article.
The motorist was taken into custody and is being held at the Detroit Detention Center with charges pending. While details of the individual's identity were not disclosed, Michigan State Police highlighted the gravity of the incident. "Great work by troopers taking this dangerous driver off the streets," F/Lt. Mike Shaw was quoted as saying in an article from WXYZ. "Troopers then continued their investigation and located narcotics and firearms that could have ended up in our neighborhoods."
