In an early morning effort to curb impaired driving, Douglas County deputies played a critical role in stopping a DUI suspect in a high-speed pursuit. According to a social media post from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, at around 4:22 A.M. on Saturday, the deputies assisted the Aurora Police Department with a westbound chase on E-470, near Gartrell Road.
The deputies first attempted to halt the suspect's progress with stop sticks, which proved ineffective as the driver barreled on, westbound. It wasn't until a deputy, equipped with the innovative Grappler device, joined the pursuit that they saw a breakthrough. The use of this technology, alongside the deputies' strategy, culminated in a halted escape west of South Quebec Street after the suspect’s vehicle bounced off the concrete barrier several times.
"I am proud of the seamless coordination between our deputies and our partners at APD," Sheriff Weekly said, as per the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. "This incident highlights the power of innovative tools like the Grappler. By effectively deploying cutting-edge technology, we’re able to bring dangerous situations to a safe conclusion while minimizing risk to the public." The vehicle was stopped using the Grappler, a device designed to safely and swiftly end vehicle pursuits.
