A fire erupted early yesterday morning in a commercial building in Downtown Los Angeles, bringing a fleet of fire department units to the scene. According to a Los Angeles Fire Department alert, flames from an automobile fire extended into a metal-clad structure located at 1547 E 12th St. The incident, logged at 06:34 AM, required firefighters to quickly enter offensive mode to battle the blaze, which sent moderate smoke billowing from the facility.
With impressive precision, it took firefighters roughly 30 minutes to bring the situation under control. The LAFD reported that "41 firefighters worked diligently to achieve a knockdown of the auto and structure fires." This information was released in an update on the department's official statement following the incident. Furthermore, a patient from the involved vehicle was evaluated on the scene and subsequently transported to a local hospital to treat burn injuries.
LAFD's units were expected to remain on-site for an additional two hours or so to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. Arson investigators from the fire department were also called to the scene to look into the cause of the flames. As per procedure, LAFD's incident command requested the assistance of Building and Safety for assessing the structural integrity and safety of the compromised building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the fire department personnel.
In the wake of the incident, the area surrounding the site of the fire remained cordoned off as investigative and clean-up operations commenced. The LAFD has yet to publicly release the findings of their arson investigation.
