A fatal collision early Friday morning left one dead after a car slammed into a Metro bus in West Hollywood. The incident occurred around 1 a.m., near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and North Orange Grove Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, as reported by KTLA. Authorities arrived to find a severely damaged yellow convertible, identified in another report by NBC Los Angeles as a Mustang, which had collided with the rear of the bus.
The driver of the Mustang, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene. While it was initially unclear whether passengers on the bus were injured, later reports by WEHO Times indicated that bus passengers reported minor injuries. The closed-off area of Santa Monica Boulevard disrupted traffic well into the early hours of the morning.
Details surrounding the cause of the crash remain under investigation by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. However, authorities noted that the Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed before the accident. A second individual in the car endured injuries and was transported to a hospital, with their condition currently undisclosed as per information from NBC Los Angeles.
The cleanup and investigation required an extended closure of Santa Monica Boulevard, which has since reopened. More details may emerge as the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's West Hollywood Station continues their investigation into the fatal crash.
