Firefighters in East Hollywood quickly extinguished a blaze at a two-story commercial building yesterday evening. According to a Los Angeles Fire Department alert, light smoke was seen coming from the roof of the structure located at 1155 N Vermont Avenue.
The LAFD coordinated an attack from both the roof and interior, managing a knockdown of the fire in the building's elevator room in just 19 minutes. In total, 36 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The building was reportedly vacant, and no injuries were reported. As crews worked to clear the site, traffic control was implemented; the Los Angeles Department of Transportation and the Los Angeles Police Department were requested to assist.
No damage estimates or the cause of the fire have been released at this time. The firefighters' swift response likely prevented the fire from spreading and causing more significant damage or potential injury to civilians and the responders themselves.
While the situation was handled promptly and efficiently by the LAFD, an investigation into the cause of the fire would likely follow. Operations on the scene were concluded with the LAFD overseeing overhaul efforts to ensure that all hotspots were extinguished and that the structure was safe.
