An Eastpointe woman accused of murdering her McDonald's manager has been deemed fit to stand trial. This follows an evaluation by the Michigan Center for Forensic Psychiatry, which determined that 27-year-old Afeni Muhammad can understand the proceedings and participate in her defense, paving the way for her to face charges including first-degree premeditated murder and carrying a weapon with unlawful intent, The Detroit News reports.

A probable cause conference was held on Wednesday where the report by the forensic center was discussed, and it found Muhammad competent which means she will be held accountable through the legal process, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido stated, as officials look ahead to the preliminary exam set for November 14; the charges stem from an incident where Muhammad allegedly stabbed her manager, Jennifer Harris, at an Eastpointe McDonald's multiple times, leading to her death, and this brutal act, described by Lucido as one that "tragically ended the life of an innocent woman," has since seen Muhammad in custody on a $25 million bond, said FOX 2 Detroit.

The events unfolded when Muhammad apparently had a dispute with Harris at work and was sent home, only to return with a knife and allegedly attack Harris, who later succumbed to her injuries; a customer attempted to intervene, firing a shot that hit no one, and ultimately detaining Muhammad until police arrived, this according to ClickOnDetroit, the charges also include Muhammad being identified as a habitual offender with this representing her second offense.

As reported by ClickOnDetroit, Judge Kathleen Galen said Muhammad was found competent based on a hearing that took place on September 17, and if Muhammad can post her bond, she will be subject to a series of stringent requirements including wearing a GPS tether, not leaving the state of Michigan and undergoing alcohol and drug testing, she also must avoid any contact with the victim's family or the witnesses and cannot return to the McDonald’s location where the incident took place.
