The Town of Wake Forest, the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau and several Wake County municipalities have launched the Wander Wake County map and a companion app. These digital tools provide access to the county’s 300 miles of trails and over 138,000 acres of open space.
According to reports from Wake Forest's announcement, the initiative aims to connect the area's scattered green spaces. The app is designed not only for local residents but also to attract visitors seeking outdoor activities. With features that allow users to filter parks and trails by location and activity, the app positions the outdoors as an accessible opportunity for exploration.
Getting the outdoor maps and information is easy. Go to the Town of Wake Forest’s website and click on the Wander Wake County icon to see the map, or download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store for use on your phone. The app includes information from towns like Cary, Zebulon, Apex, and Garner, and links nature trails with local businesses to create a connected list of places to visit.
Rashawn King, Director of TTI, explained that working together on a shared destination app helps organizations turn strategic plans into action by improving regional connectivity and making parks more accessible through a unified platform for both residents and visitors.
The app plays a key role in Wake County's Destination Strategic Plan, developed in 2018. This plan focuses on enhancing the 'Quality of Place' by highlighting local assets that residents value.
