On Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is hosting free open house events at the Besadny Anadromous Fish Facility in Kewaunee and the Root River Steelhead Facility in Racine, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources recent news release.
For those with a penchant for piscine pleasures, the Root River Steelhead Facility is the spot to be, the open house there will not just offer tours explaining how fish are captured but also delve into the reasons behind trout and salmon egg collection essential for stocking Lake Michigan, but visitors will also find hands-on activities courtesy of local conservation associations and sport fishing enthusiasts that include everything from the Touch of the Wild Education Trailer to fly casting clinics, as reported by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources statement.
For those curious about the life cycle of trout and salmon, a visit to the Besadny Anadromous Fish Facility will prove enlightening, with salmon egg collection demonstrations and guided tours highlighting a day of educational presentations this facility serves as a critical launching point for stocking these fish into Lake Michigan with eggs harvested here being distributed to other hatcheries for growth and future stocking in the Great Lakes sport fishery, as per the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
