On October 13, Fairfield police arrested a suspected car burglar with the aid of a drone after he was spotted hiding in a creek. The Fairfield Police Department disclosed via a social media post that the incident occurred around 3:31 AM when they were alerted to a suspect checking car door handles on Pavillion Court. A vigilant resident, who initially saw the suspect on their home surveillance system, attempted to confront the individual, which led to the suspect fleeing towards a nearby creek.
Officers swiftly responded to the scene, where Officer Penate interviewed the resident and Officer Cuevas skillfully launched a drone to search the area. Meanwhile, Officers Mroz and Brown conducted a thorough check around the vicinity. It didn't take long for Officer Cuevas to locate the man using the drone and quickly advise his colleagues of the hiding spot. Officers Mroz and Penate set up a strategic perimeter, which resulted in them successfully detaining the suspect.
The man apprehended was identified as 23-year-old Joseph Nunez. Upon arrest, the Fairfield Police Department confirmed that Officer Penate recognized Nunez as the individual spotted on the resident's surveillance footage. Additionally, the suspect matched the description of a person involved in a vehicle burglary reported earlier in Penate's shift.
Nunez was subsequently transported and booked into the County Jail.
