An incident occurred in Queens last Friday night, where an uncle and his nephew were found dead in what appears to be a murder-suicide following a familial dispute. PIX11 News reports that after a fight, the 41-year-old nephew shot his 37-year-old uncle, Prince McFarlane, in the head and then took his own life at a residence on 116th Rd. in Jamaica.
Officers from the NYPD arrived at the scene just after 11:45 p.m. McFarlane was declared dead at the location, while his nephew was rushed to a local hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, losing his life there. The shots ringing out after the relatives entered into a dispute, the police stated. A more personal aspect to the story unraveled from an interview with a family member who indicated a deeper conflict regarding the sale of a home.
According to a New York Post report, both men were cousins and embroiled in a contention over how proceeds from the sale of a property should be allocated. A family dispute over the sale of the home they once shared as children escalated, resulting in both cousins with lethal gunshot wounds to the head. The elder cousin, Antoine, was later pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.
In a series of events, the wife of Prince McFarlane grew worried after her husband neither answered his phone nor picked up their daughter from school, using a 360-phone tracking app to trace his location to the house. She discovered her husband's body upon entering the home, having been led in by the uncle who lived in the building's basement. Before the arrival of the NYPD's Emergency Services Unit, a fatal gunshot was heard from upstairs, where Antoine was subsequently found with a handgun, authorities and sources related.
