A series of traffic incidents around Interstate 75 have been making headlines today. Early this morning, the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on I-75 in Tampa. The collision occurred in the westbound lanes and, despite the severity of the incident, according to WFLA News Channel 8, currently there are no reported roadblocks disrupting additional traffic.
In an unrelated but equally tragic event, a bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle on County Road 326, near the Interstate. Established by the on-scene investigation, a westbound Ford Fiesta collided with the bicyclist, who "suddenly crossed the roadway into the path of the vehicle," as detailed in a report from FOX 35 Orlando. Authorities confirmed that the individual on the bicycle died from injuries sustained in the accident.
Further compounding the day's incidents around I-75, another crash forced the closure of the northbound entrance ramp at Fowler Avenue. Traveling in this area, drivers have been advised to proceed with caution while the Florida Highway Patrol investigates, reported by Tampa Bay 28. The specific details regarding the nature of the crash or any potential casualties have not yet been released.
While the Florida Highway Patrol continues to piece together these unfortunate events, travelers in the area are being reminded of the nearly 30 new laws that took effect in the state last Wednesday.
