A deadly blaze in west Las Vegas claimed a life early this morning. Firefighters were dispatched to a reported fire at a residence located on the 6000 block of Carmen Boulevard, as per FOX5 Vegas. The incident was first noticed when a caller reported smoke emanating from a bedroom window of the home.
Upon their arrival, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue crews were met with the task of prying their way into the house, having to force entry, in which they discovered one individual. Near Jones Boulevard and Vegas Drive, after being brought to medical personnel, the unidentified person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the agency's statement.
The fire, which was finally snuffed out just after 4 a.m., is now the subject of an ongoing investigation. Details regarding the cause of the fire have not been disclosed, but News 3 LV reports that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is assisting with the investigation. Firefighters had to tackle the flames and managed to declare an "all clear" by 4:06 a.m.
This tragic event marks the second fire-related incident of the day that Las Vegas Fire and Rescue crews had to respond to—the first, occurring earlier that day, resulted in three injuries, detailed in a report by 8 News Now. For the home on Carmen Boulevard, board-up services have been requested to secure at least a door and a garage door, indicating the extent of damage necessitating repairs, as seen in the smoke coming from a bedroom window.
Utility companies NV Energy and Southwest Gas have been notified following the incident, suggesting disruptions to services or potential involvement in the investigative processes.
