Earlier today, residents in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood observed a large-scale operation as the FBI and Philadelphia police conducted raids on multiple homes as part of an extensive drug investigation. NBC10 reported that the operation took place near Clearfield and Potter Streets, where SkyForce10 aerial footage showed considerable police activity, including FBI teams on the ground.
Law enforcement officials were seen carrying boxes from a house, as the FBI confirmed it was conducting "court-authorized law enforcement" in Kensington, according to a statement by FBI Public Affairs Specialist Sofia Kettler obtained by NBC10.
Sources speaking to FOX 29 said the raids were connected to a large-scale drug investigation, and the FBI's involvement indicates a significant level of organization behind the alleged illegal activities. Neighbors reported that the raids began around dawn, likely to take advantage of the element of surprise. The specific locations targeted included properties near F and Clearfield Streets and the 3100 block of Weymouth Street, which federal agents also swarmed. The exact scope of the raids remains unclear, as the number of arrests made has not yet been disclosed.
The area around Weymouth Street was closed to traffic, reported 6abc. The shutdown, between Allegheny Ave and Clearfield St., allowed officials to conduct their investigation uninterrupted.
Further developments are expected as the FBI has scheduled a press conference this afternoon to provide additional information about the investigation.
