The City of Folsom is facing a $3 million shortfall in its General Fund for the upcoming fiscal year, and the City Council is scheduled to continue its budgetary discussions on October 14. They hope to address the financial deficit through various internal measures targeting departmental expenses.
Specifically, the Council will review proposed service reorganizations across multiple sectors such as Community Development, Parks & Recreation, Public Works, and Environmental and Water Resources. According to a statement on the city of Folsom website, staff members have been tasked with presenting cost-cutting strategies, including staffing adjustments and the use of special revenue funds to keep the budget in check, and no further layoffs are expected during this stage of the budget process.
At a prior meeting on September 23, the City Council approved an initial set of cost-saving measures. "The Council approved the first phase of cost-saving measures, including staff reductions, service reorganizations, and fire department staffing and equipment realignments that will save $3.1 million this year," the earlier report from the city of Folsom. In addition, the Council mulled over a $1.6 million subsidy for the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary and asked staff to look into alternative management structures.
The upcoming session, which will take place at the Council Chambers located at Folsom City Hall, 50 Natoma Street, is an opportunity for residents to get involved and express their views on the proposed financial strategies and city services. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with city leaders urging community members to attend and engage in the ongoing fiscal decision-making process.
