The Folsom Fire Department has announced a sweeping realignment of its operations, which will see one fire engine taken out of service and a reshuffling of staff to adapt to community risk and call volume. As reported by Folsom's official city website, these steps are expected to save the city an estimated $1 million per year in overtime costs, maintaining the operation's fiscal health.

In a move designed to keep all six fire stations open and functioning, Folsom will now operate with four engine companies, a single ladder truck, and three ambulances. These changes come amid a public process involving multiple meetings and considerations of a General Fund shortfall for the 2025-26 fiscal year. Notably, an engine company at Station 38 will no longer be in service—but the aim is to ensure optimal resource deployment throughout the community.

With these operational adjustments, the Folsom Fire Department anticipates some changes in response times during peak periods or simultaneous emergencies. "The Folsom Fire Department remains focused on providing fast, effective emergency response for our community," Interim Folsom Fire Chief Jason Solak said in a statement obtained by Folsom's official city website. "This realignment allows us to operate as efficiently as possible given the necessary staffing reductions. These changes enable us to deploy resources where they’re needed most while keeping public safety at the forefront of every decision."

To ensure continued service effectiveness, the department will closely monitor the impact of these changes, while also working with the Sacramento Regional Fire/EMS Communications Center to update dispatch systems in line with new apparatus assignments. The Folsom Fire Department, with a service history dating back to 1857, remains committed to serving its population of approximately 92,577 residents.
