In an effort to curb the potential misuse and environmental hazards posed by leftover prescription medications, the Folsom Police Department in partnership with the DEA is hosting the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Set to unfold this Friday, at Folsom Fire Station #35 located on 535 Glenn Dr., from 10 AM to 2 PM, this initiative aims to safely dispose of unused or expired medications, vape pens, and e-cigarettes with the stipulation of batteries being removed prior to drop-off.
A recent social media post by the Folsom Police Department detailed the specifics of the take-back event, including what community members can and cannot bring. "Let’s keep old prescription meds out of the wrong hands by safely disposing of unused or expired medications," reads the statement. To seamlessly participate, the public is advised to bring old prescription pills in a clear zipper bag, and liquid medications, gels, or creams in their original sealed containers. Syringes, inhalers, illicit drugs, and vape pens or e-cigarettes with non-removable batteries are notably not accepted.
On this day, residents will have the privilege to anonymously drop off items, no questions asked, to promote a drug-free community. Items should be prepped according to guidelines, such as removing personal information from medication labels, to ensure privacy and security. Furthermore, the process is designed to be quick — just drop and go, with the emphasis on eliminating the risk of prescription drugs potentially leading to addiction or poisoning if left unattended in homes.
