In a recent move by the city of Fort Worth, officials have turned their attention towards environmental conservation through the promotion of recycling initiatives. During an Oct. 14 Fort Worth City Council work session, Mayor Mattie Parker and the Council declared Nov. 15, 2025, as "America Recycles Day" in Fort Worth, as per the City of Fort Worth. The declaration aims to highlight the importance of recycling in waste diversion, boosting the local economy, and preserving natural resources for future usage.
In their proclamation, the city recognizes the essential progress made in the realm of recycling — acknowledging the strides taken by the community and industry partners alike. The upcoming WM's new Fort Worth Recycling Facility, expected to open on Oct. 28, was spotlighted as a significant advancement. This facility boasts a modern recovery system, promising to enhance the local area's capacity for recycling with its sophisticated sorting and capture technologies. Environmental Services Director Cody Whittenburg showcased the ongoing cooperative efforts of both WM, Republic Services, and other community stakeholders in propelling the city's recycling momentum forward.
Fort Worth's commitment to the cause aligns them with a larger, nationwide effort. What began as Texas Recycles Day in 1994 has since evolved into the broader America Recycles Day, celebrated annually since 1997. As the city marks the 28th annual event on Nov. 15, it joins other municipalities across the country, reinforcing the collective endeavor to increase and improve recycling practices amongst communities.
