The folks over at Pit Coffee are stirring more than just cream into their coffee these days. Fort Worth's recently opened coffee shop, located inside a Texaco gas station at 2747 Eighth Ave., has partnered with the Cowtown Friends of FWACC to pour a bit of love into the lives of homeless pets in the city. They kicked off their collaboration with a thoughtful gesture, providing free specialty lattes to the staff at Silcox Animal Shelter on a brisk Tuesday morning.

The initiative is spearheaded by Monica Matheny, a single mom and Pit Coffee’s owner, who has a soft spot for pit bulls, and the coffee's two canine representatives, Woo and Karma, have kind of become the unofficial mascots of the brand. This love for pets is taken seriously, as "Our pets love people and are the friendliest," Matheny told the City of Fort Worth. By bringing together coffee lovers and animal enthusiasts, the partnership aims to aid in improving the quality of life for shelter animals.

Star barista and Matheny's 18-year-old daughter, Chasen, served the array of elaborately flavored lattes, such as pumpkin brown sugar and cinnamon roll, showing the family's gratitude for the animal shelter staff's unwavering dedication. The shop itself has been an advocate and donor, with QR codes prominently displayed for customers to contribute to the cause. This idea, blossoming from a coffee-fueled conversation between Matheny and Cowtown Friends of FWACC co-founder Dana Litt, has now solidified into a continuous effort to offer assistance to Fort Worth’s homeless pets.

"The workers don’t always get credit for all the effort they put in, so they deserve this," Litt commented during an interview with the City of Fort Worth. Regulars of Pit Coffee, both two-legged and four-legged, can expect more than just deliciously crafted coffee; they are now part of a broader mission to bring a measure of happiness to the city's animal companions. As for Pit Coffee's future, the Matheny family plans to extend their paw-print with the opening of a new standalone location in Richland Hills.
