The landscape of local pharmacies in Pittsburgh's Mount Washington neighborhood is experiencing a refill as Giant Eagle Pharmacy plants roots. Set to throw open its doors tomorrow, the brand will occupy a familiar space where the Rite Aid once stood on Virginia Avenue, as reported by WTAE.
The opening of the standalone pharmacy seems timely, addressing the absence left by the closure of its predecessor. "We are thrilled to be opening this standalone Giant Eagle pharmacy to meet the health, wellness and fresh foods needs of the Mt. Washington community," Giant Eagle President and CEO Bill Artman conveyed in a statement released to the press, as detailed by WPXI. A ceremonial ribbon-cutting is on the schedule for 10 a.m. on opening day, with a neighborhood celebration featuring the Pirate Parrot mascot and activities aimed at families slated to spice up the inauguration.
In a play to connect with the residents and perhaps to sweeten their entry into the market, Giant Eagle Pharmacy is attaching a philanthropic angle to its prescriptions. The "Fill it Forward" initiative pledges to donate $1 to the Mt. Washington Community Development Corporation for every new and transferred prescription filled from Oct. 30 through Nov. 30, with a cap at $2,500, as detailed by WPXI.
